Widows

Widows

When a gang of career crims ends up as cinders in a heist gone wrong, their shocked and grieving widows are pursued for the stolen money. This motley crew of women isn't your obvious bunch of molls, but the man with the gun - an extremely menacing Daniel Kaluuya - demonstrates he's deadly serious.  School teacher Veronica (Oscar-winning Viola Davis) is the gal-with-a-plan and only two weeks in is able to outwit some of the most hardened criminals around: the politicians who are duking it out for control of the city.

Director: Steve Mcqueen
Stars: Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki

Blackkklansman

The Litte Stranger

Set in a declining country house after the Second World War, Domhnall Gleeson plays country doctor Faraday, who is called to care for the inhabitants - Charlotte Rampling as the matriarch, Ruth Wilson as her daughter, and Will Poulter as the son physically and psychologically damaged by combat.  Faraday falls in love with the house and the family, but their maladies are beyond his power to cure: they are haunted by a dying way of life, as well as something far more ominous.

This is an extremely elegant riff on Gothic horror although the emphasis, being from Waters, is more on social comment on class divisions, perhaps, than on horror.  Which is fine by us!

Director: Lenny Abrahamson
Stars: Domhnall GleesonRuth WilsonWill Poulter
