235 Hornsey Cricket Club features on Cricket AMJuly 25, 2012 Greene & Co. are proud sponsors of Hornsey Cricket Club, who were mentioned on last Saturday’s Cricket AM, Sky Sport’s Saturday morning Cricket show.
Cricket AM are currently trying to find Britain’s fastest amateur bowlers. In order to compile their league they are traveling all over the country going to a different amateur bowling club each week, and last week they came to Hornsey.
A few local boys then get two attempts to bowl as hard as they could, competing with each other to be the one whose bowling speed is selected for the league. The boy who won in Hornsey managed to reach 66mph, which unfortunately wasn’t fast enough to beat the league’s current top score of 74mph. But our correspondent at the club Chetan Patel said the whole event was lots of fun and a great way to attract interest for the sport in the area.
If you managed to catch it on TV you may have noticed Greene & Co.’s sponsorship banner in the background while the winner was awarded their plaque!
229 The Olympic Torch arrives at Ally Pally this evening! When designing the route that the Olympic torch would take around Britain organizers ensured that it would pass within at least ten miles of each house in the country. Could this evening be the closest it gets to you?
The torch is due to enter Alexandra Palace grounds from the Muswell Hill end of Alexandra Palace Way. Following the final torch bearer exchanges (officially each called a “kiss”) the Olympic Flame will make its final journey onto the stage by the Ally Pally Ice Rink where an ‘Olympic Cauldron’ will be lit.
Ticket holders will be allowed entry into the Palace from around 4pm and the main stage will come to life at 5pm, showcasing up-and-coming live music acts, acrobatics, dance performances and Haringey Young Musicians. The event will culminate in the arrival of the final Torchbearer who will light the celebration cauldron on the stage, with the whole event finishing around 7pm.
But even if you don’t manage to get tickets, why not join the crowds trying to catch a glimpse of this ancient tradition as it passes by your very own neighbourhood.

215 St Joseph’s Summer FairJuly 12, 2012
The occasional downpour couldn’t dampen spirits last Saturday as St Joseph’s Fair turns out a rip-roaring success. Far from being rained off the relaxed joyful ambiance kept many till well past closing! Greene & Co. were there in full force and joined in with the jollity. Highlights included the International food court, which is traditionally one of the best attractions of the day, but this year the multicultural vibe was given an auditory echo by a live band playing funky South American music in the School hall.
Outside parents relaxed with a Pimms or Sangria as children queued for face painting or joined Greene & Co.’s Greene men who were taking part in the popular ‘ring the bottle’, though with not much luck! Those looking to indulge in some retail therapy found their desires overly attended to; many stalls were selling brand new clothes at an incredible price. Successful bargain hunters carried away their spoils in a stylish bag provided and branded by Greene & Co, which organizers report were in high demand!
Merrymaking aside, St Joseph’s managed to raise a whopping £10,200. The school has since contacted Greene & Co. to thank us for all support we gave Summer Fair and all the other events during this year, so congratulations all round!
